Spacecast is an astronomy website that allows you to talk to the stars! We are also community for those who are enthusiastic about all things space related!

How do I send a message to space?

Use our ‘Talk To The Stars’ feature simply by clicking our official logo on our homepage OR click Explore > Talk To The Stars - and follow the directions on the page.

How fast will my message travel through space?

Roughly the speed of light (299,792,458 m/s).

What frequencies are the messages sent at?

We use a wide range of frequencies so long as they are above critical frequency, allowing them to breach the ionosphere.

Can aliens receive my message?

Though uncertain, it’s possible that with technology far more advanced than ours, aliens could one day receive your message.

Who is Team Spacecast?

Our team consists of dedicated amateur astronomers, computer programmers, web developers, writers, photographers and artists - all of whom are deeply passionate about space, science, engineering and the natural world.

What can I send to space?

Any personal message or photograph of your choice so long as it is appropriate.

How do radio waves travel in space?

Space is a vacuum, allowing radio waves to travel vast distances with little to no interference. Radio waves are also ideal for breaching clouds of cosmic gas and dust since they are on the non-visible end of the light spectrum.

How do signals breach the ionosphere?

At a high enough frequency and the right time of day, breaching the ionosphere is a fairly simple task!

When was Spacecast established?

While the idea for Spacecast was years in the making, Spacecast was publicly launched May 6, 2021.
